Frequently Asked Questions
Sublimation is a custom printing process that uses heat to transfer dye into materials like polyester fabric or specially coated surfaces such as mugs or metal panels. The result is a full-color, long-lasting print that won't peel, crack, or fade. It's ideal for creating custom apparel, gifts, and home décor.
You can print on any polyester material or poly-coated product that has been formulated for sublimation. Common products include mugs, tumblers, signage, totes and accessories.
The Sawgrass Difference refers to the premium quality you can expect as a Sawgrass user. In addition to producing high-quality decorating systems, we also provide 2-year warranties on your printer, 2-year ink expirations on your inks and a variety of complimentary education and support. The two printer models have the same components and operate the same. The big difference is the paper sizes that can be supported. The main tray of the SG1000 can handle up to A3/Tabloid size paper while the SG500 can support up to A4/Legal size paper. In addition, you can purchase a bypass tray for either printer. The bypass tray, for either the SG500 or SG1000, is an additional paper tray that sits at the rear of the printer and allows you print onto normally unsupported or larger page sizes. The SG1000 will allow you to print larger than A3 such as A3+/13"x19" and the SG500 will allow you to print longer than 8.5"x14". You can also purchase larger extended size cartridges for the SG1000 that hold more ink.
In addition to the Sublijet system, you will need to purchase a heat press and poly-coated product blanks. To find a dealer near you, visit sawgrassink.com/find-a-dealer.
No. Sawgrass printers are designed to work exclusively with Sawgrass inks to ensure optimal print quality and extend the life of your machine. Sawgrass inks are easy to use, mess-free, and specially formulated to flow smoothly through the print head, helping to reduce clogs and maintain performance. We use high-quality materials and enforce strict quality controls to protect both the ink and your printer from environmental factors that can cause damage. Installing inks that are not Sawgrass-branded could void the warranty on your printer.
Yes, for sublimation prints, you will need a paper that has been specifically designed for sublimation as the printable side will have a coating suitable for sublimation ink. If you were to use paper that has not been designed for sublimation, such as copy paper, you will not achieve a quality finished product. Please look for papers that have been designed for Sawgrass printers and not specifically for other printer brands.
No! Sawgrass Print Utility and MySawgrass are free for all Sawgrass users. No. Because our ink formulations are uniquely engineered, it's not possible to guarantee a complete flush of one ink before introducing another. Mixing different ink types can lead to inconsistent print results and may compromise output quality.
